Curated by Catherine Kwai and opened on the eve of Art Basel Hong Kong, it is the largest retrospective exhibition devoted to Mathieu in Hong Kong to date.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 480px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video playsinline class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-1207-1\" width=\"480\" height=\"608\" loop autoplay muted preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/georges-mathieu.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2021-K11.mp4?_=1\" \/><\/video><\/div>\n<p>Fourteen major paintings spanning forty years of work, from the \u201ccalligraphic period\u201d of the 1950s to the \u201ccosmic\u201d shift begun in 1984, retrace the career of the founder of Lyrical Abstraction, the movement that connected the School of Paris with the New York School in the early 1950s.<\/p>\n<p>The Georges Mathieu Committee contributes two rare films showing Mathieu painting in public in Osaka in 1957 and in Vienna in 1959. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Rossif\u2019s documentary <em>Georges Mathieu ou La fureur d\u2019\u00eatre<\/em> (\u201cGeorges Mathieu or the Fury of Being\u201d) is also screened daily.
